The Mill Division Mechanical Engineering Manager at Graphic Packaging International is a pivotal role responsible for providing Engineering Project Leadership and technical support for 14 paper machines across 7 locations in the US and Canada. This position requires a seasoned professional with extensive experience in the pulp and paper industry, particularly in manufacturing and engineering. The successful candidate will lead a team of engineers, overseeing the development, testing, modification, and creation of solutions to complex technical problems. This role demands expert knowledge in various facets of engineering, including capital requests, equipment procurement, and the management of installation projects. The candidate will also be responsible for managing vendors and contractors, ensuring that all projects are completed safely, on-time, and within budget. In addition to technical expertise, the role requires strong leadership skills to manage engineers and contractors effectively. The Mechanical Engineering Manager will develop capital requests, prepare bids, and recommend vendors, while also hiring and mentoring engineers and support staff. The position involves significant collaboration across teams, requiring excellent communication skills to build positive relationships at each mill and to confer with higher levels of management. The candidate will also be tasked with overseeing the research and development of new products and procedures, ensuring that all engineering activities align with the company's strategic goals. The role includes responsibilities such as preparing budgets, drafting proposals, and improving manufacturing processes. The Mechanical Engineering Manager will also be involved in establishing administrative policies and procedures, coordinating activities with other units, and providing input to the five-year capital and infrastructure program. This position is critical in ensuring that equipment files and databases are maintained accurately and that preventive and predictive maintenance needs are identified and addressed. The candidate must be willing to travel up to 50% of the time, which may include overnight travel by various means of transportation.
