About the position

The Engineering Team Manager at Ocado will oversee engineering shift activities within a 24/7 operational environment at the Customer Fulfillment Center. This role focuses on ensuring a safe working environment while optimizing the performance of the facility and its automation systems. The manager will be responsible for leading a team, monitoring engineering KPIs, and fostering a customer-focused culture, all while driving process improvements and maintaining effective communication with key stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Manage engineering shift activities for a 24/7 operation.
  • Create and promote a safe work culture by championing safe work practices.
  • Monitor and report daily engineering KPIs, including fault reduction and elimination.
  • Performance management, development, and training of the engineering team.
  • Lead a proactive customer-focused culture and drive change initiatives for MHE equipment and process improvement.
  • Build collaborative relationships with key customers and maintain robust communication links.
  • Support daily objective/corrective actions defined during safety meetings.
  • Align, prioritize, and monitor KPIs that support customer service optimization.
  • Conduct performance management and employee recognition & discipline.
  • Develop effective customer relationships to facilitate communication and execution of deliverables.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 4 years' relevant experience in electrical and/or mechanical roles.
  • A minimum of 2 years' experience in a management or supervisory level within an automated environment.
  • A bachelor's degree in engineering or relevant field of study, or an associate's degree with additional relevant experience.
  • Good technical ability relating to automation hardware and software.
  • Good organizational ability and the ability to plan and prioritize.
  • Sound analytical skills with an eye for detail and good problem-solving ability.
  • Comprehensive understanding of production, picking, and storage MHE systems.
  • Experience in a FMCG environment and with computerized maintenance management systems.
  • Ability to engage and enthuse a diverse team in a time-constrained environment.
  • Numerate and PC literate, including proficiency in Word and Excel.
