About the position

The Engineering Tech / Advanced Manufacturing Instructor at Muscatine Community College is responsible for teaching courses and assessing learning outcomes in the assigned discipline. The instructor will engage in various teaching methods, including in-person, online, and hybrid formats, and may be required to teach evening courses or at multiple sites. The position is structured around a 167-day contract, emphasizing the importance of effective instructional delivery and student engagement. In this role, the instructor will be tasked with designing and maintaining curriculum that meets the established course development model. This includes preparing for classes, establishing clear syllabi, communicating course objectives, and evaluating student performance regularly. The instructor will also be expected to maintain office hours to assist students, monitor academic progress, and collaborate with support services to enhance student success. Participation in outcomes assessment measurements and the implementation of learning strategies to meet student outcomes are also key responsibilities. Additionally, the instructor will be involved in college and district activities, serving on committees and participating in faculty meetings. Professional development is a critical aspect of this role, requiring the instructor to maintain qualifications and engage in ongoing learning opportunities. The instructor will also play a role in student recruitment and retention, demonstrating professionalism and support for the college's mission and values.

Responsibilities

  • Teach courses in accordance with established outcomes and instructional delivery methods.
  • Participate in the design and revision of curriculum as needed.
  • Demonstrate satisfactory preparation and meet with classes as scheduled.
  • Establish rapport with students and solicit feedback to improve teaching practices.
  • Communicate course objectives, evaluation policies, and attendance policies to students.
  • Evaluate and record student performance regularly and provide feedback.
  • Maintain appropriate office hours to assist students and provide feedback.
  • Collaborate with support services to assist student success and meet accommodations as required.
  • Monitor and communicate with students about academic progress and refer at-risk students as needed.
  • Participate in outcomes assessment measurements and implement learning strategies to meet student outcomes.
  • Serve on college and district committees and participate in faculty meetings.
  • Assist in the recruitment and retention of students and demonstrate professionalism.
  • Retain professional qualifications and participate in professional development activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in discipline preferred or a combination of education, training, and at least 6,000 hours of relevant tested experience in the field of instruction.
  • Ability to utilize a variety of technology-based instructional tools.
  • Comfortable teaching in-person, online, and hybrid environments.
  • Proficiency in electronics, hydraulics/pneumatics, advanced Programmable Logic Controllers, automation, industrial robotics, and motion control.
