About the position

The Engineering Technician position at Rexarc International is designed for an empowered employee who will utilize their personal skills, abilities, and core values to contribute to the company's success. The primary focus of this role is to create and update engineering drawings using AutoCAD and SolidWorks for both purchased and manufactured parts and assemblies. The technician will develop detailed design drawings and specifications for mechanical equipment, dies, tools, and controls, employing computer-assisted drafting (CAD) equipment. This position requires close collaboration with the Lead Design Engineer to discuss changes in design, manufacturing methods, assembly processes, and testing procedures, ensuring that all corrections are coordinated effectively. In addition to drafting responsibilities, the Engineering Technician will process and distribute essential engineering documentation, including change notices, revision notices, and engineering drawings. They will review instructions and drawings to ascertain test specifications, procedures, and objectives, and analyze test results in relation to design specifications. The technician will also be responsible for setting up prototype and test apparatus, operating test controlling equipment, and recording test procedures and results, including numerical and graphical data. Furthermore, they will estimate cost factors for purchased and fabricated parts, as well as costs associated with assembly, testing, or installation. The role also includes attending weekly one-on-one meetings with the manager, participating in project meetings, and contributing to new product development discussions. The technician is expected to suggest and implement improvements relevant to their job responsibilities and work collaboratively with team members to enhance processes throughout the organization. A strong emphasis is placed on maintaining a clean and organized work area, demonstrating ownership and accountability for housekeeping.

Responsibilities

  • Create and update engineering drawings using AutoCAD and SolidWorks for purchased and manufacturing parts and assemblies.
  • Develop detailed design drawings and specifications for mechanical equipment, dies, tools, and controls using CAD equipment.
  • Discuss changes in design, method of manufacture and assembly, and test procedures with the Lead Design Engineer and coordinate corrections.
  • Process and distribute all essential engineering documentation including change notices, revision notices, and engineering drawings.
  • Review instructions and drawings to ascertain test specifications, procedures, and objectives, and analyze test results in relation to design specifications.
  • Set up prototype and test apparatus and operate test controlling equipment to observe and record prototype test results.
  • Estimate cost factors including labor and material for purchased and fabricated parts and costs for assembly, testing, or installing.
  • Attend weekly one-on-one meetings with the manager and participate in project meetings and new product development discussions.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in Engineering Technology/Mechanical Engineering or 1-3 years of drafting experience with a strong aptitude in drafting processes.
  • 1-3 years of manufacturing experience.
  • Experience with SolidWorks and AutoCAD or AutoCAD LT.
  • Familiarity with Office 365 and ASME Section VIII Div I Code.
  • Experience with Compress Design Software and JobBoss ERP System.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement.
