About the position

The Engineering Technician 1 position involves performing a variety of technical engineering tasks in support of professional engineers. This entry-level role includes responsibilities such as drafting, engineering calculations, surveying, materials testing, construction inspection, and assisting with bridge maintenance and structural inspections. The position is located in Reno/Sparks and requires close supervision while learning to apply technical engineering skills and methods.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the coordination of the District Bridge Maintenance Program.
• Perform bridge maintenance and structural inspections.
• Recommend material and repair strategies for bridges.
• Coordinate with various agencies for bridge repair contracts.
• Prepare time/cost estimates and develop project scopes.
• Assist in conducting the National Bridge Inventory and Inspection Program.
• Coordinate and inspect construction activities for district contracts.
• Track quantities and review invoices from contractors for completed work.
• Respond to auto accidents affecting bridge components and assess damages.
• Review bridge inspection reports to identify candidates for future repair projects.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• One year of experience involving public contact or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Valid driver's license at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
• Must be at least 18 years of age upon hire.
