About the position

The Engineering Technician 3 position involves performing a variety of technical engineering tasks in support of professional engineers within the Department of Transportation. The role includes responsibilities such as drafting, engineering calculations, surveying, materials testing, construction inspection, and roadway design. The technician will assist in the coordination of the District Bridge Maintenance Program and will be involved in bridge maintenance, structural inspections, and project management activities.

Responsibilities

• Perform technical engineering work in support of professional engineers.
• Conduct drafting, engineering calculations, and surveying.
• Test materials and soils, and inspect construction projects.
• Assist in roadway design and right-of-way engineering.
• Coordinate with various agencies for bridge repair contracts.
• Prepare time/cost estimates and develop project scopes.
• Conduct inspections for the National Bridge Inventory and Inspection Program.
• Respond to auto accidents affecting bridge components and assess damages.
• Review bridge inspection reports to identify candidates for future repair projects.

Requirements

• Associate's degree in engineering, physics, math, or a closely related field and one year of relevant experience; OR high school diploma with two years of relevant experience; OR one year as an Engineering Technician II in Nevada State service; OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Valid driver's license at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.

• Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations regarding bridge maintenance.
