About the position

The Engineering Technician A position at Santee Cooper involves providing technical support for the design and documentation of electrical systems in substations, including transmission, distribution, and generation facilities. The technician will also engage in continuous improvement efforts by researching new technologies and materials, and will act as a project leader for assigned tasks.

Responsibilities

• Creates engineering drawings for electrical designs of substations using CAD software.
• Prepares purchase requisitions and material requests for substation electrical equipment.
• Assists in preparing specifications to ensure equipment is manufactured correctly.
• Performs grounding tests and assists with design calculations for ground grids.
• Creates RTU drawings and EMS database sheets.
• Acts as project leader on assigned projects, attending meetings and monitoring schedules.
• Researches and evaluates new technological applications for electrical substation design.
• Reviews and updates specifications and standard material catalogs.
• Maintains accurate records in Oracle, iPort, and ECM.
• Coordinates with unit members on designs and standards.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a related field of study with 4 years of experience, or an Associate degree with 6 years of experience, or a high school diploma/GED with 8 years of experience required.
• Proficiency in Oracle and CAD software.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with grounding tests and design calculations.
• Familiarity with electrical equipment and standards.
