The Engineering Technician (Civil) position at the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) involves providing engineering assistance to landowners, groups, and government units to implement and maintain conservation practices. The role requires technical support in civil engineering projects, including preparing construction drawings, conducting engineering surveys, and performing hydrologic and hydraulic computations. Responsibilities

  • Provides civil engineering technician field assistance in support of NRCS conservation activities.
  • Prepares detailed construction drawings for complex engineering projects.
  • Performs engineering surveys utilizing GPS technologies.
  • Provides technical support and training for CADD users.
  • Conducts hydrologic and hydraulic computations using NRCS engineering application software.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. National.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state motor vehicle operator's license.
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level for GS-08 applicants.
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-08 level for GS-09 applicants.
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level for GS-10 applicants.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with computer-aided drafting and design software (CADD).
  • Familiarity with NRCS engineering application software.
