About the position

The position involves assisting in project preparation and design activities for in-house road, bridge, and drainage projects. Responsibilities include collecting survey data, staking grades, drafting construction plans using AutoCAD Civil 3D, estimating project quantities and costs, and conducting document research. Additionally, the role includes construction inspection, quality assurance, and ensuring compliance with contract requirements. The candidate will also coordinate general office activities and assist in the preparation of technical reports and bid documents, while maintaining positive working relationships with others.

Responsibilities

  • Collect survey data from topography such as location of physical objects, direct elevations, cross sections, etc.
  • Stake grades and control, and verify staking and layout with construction plans.
  • Draft construction plans and survey plats using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Estimate project quantities and costs.
  • Conduct document research.
  • Assist in construction inspection and quality assurance related to compliance with contract requirements.
  • Receive and verify material quantities as construction materials are delivered and installed on the construction site.
  • Ensure work and materials comply with specifications and applicable standards.
  • Conduct sampling and material testing for bituminous materials and aggregates.
  • Perform field measurements and documentation of quantities as required by the contract.
  • Conduct office administrative activities including checking quantities and documentation, preparing reports for progress and payment, and checking payrolls.
  • Prepare County highway maps and update infrastructure databases.
  • Work with GIS systems and assist in highway and bridge inspection.
  • Assist in the preparation of technical reports and bid documents; research and respond to routine inquiries from the general public.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma (Required)
  • Associate Degree in Civil Engineering Technology (Preferred)
  • One or more years of previous experience in the surveying or construction field
  • Working knowledge of computers
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a professional environment
  • Effective public relations skills and the ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with others.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge in the use of Microsoft Office
  • Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Familiarity with Geographic Information Systems (G.I.S.) and related software
  • Knowledge of testing of bituminous pavement and aggregates
  • Experience in construction surveying.
