About the position

The Engineering Technician II (Utilities) position at Baldwin County Commission involves permitting, inspecting, documenting, and reporting on the installation of public utilities on County rights-of-way. The role requires coordination and performance of inspections for various construction projects and utility installations, ensuring compliance with regulations and standards. The technician will also maintain records and databases related to permitted projects and may be required to travel to various construction sites throughout the County.

Responsibilities

  • Update and maintain applications for various permits in the County rights-of-way.
  • Create GIS drawings and enter projects into ARCGIS database.
  • Process applications to determine if the appropriate regulations are met.
  • Correspond with applicants and other County employees.
  • Create agenda items for License Agreements.
  • Inspect workmanship and materials of construction projects to ensure compliance with approved plans.
  • Inspect all traffic control devices in permitted projects to ensure they are operational.
  • Complete required inspection forms and correspondence to appropriate representatives.
  • Keep a diary of work progress for each permitted project and prepare weekly progress reports.
  • Determine quantities used in project completion for estimates if needed.
  • Fill out and submit all required forms and supporting data.
  • Prepare daily work activity sheets for record keeping.
  • Review final as-built drawings for accuracy.
  • Maintain a database of all permitted projects.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Under 1 year of experience in GIS or related field.
  • Valid driver's license and insurable by the County's insurance standards.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel, ARCGIS, and other relevant software.
  • Strong communication and writing skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Two years of experience in a related field preferred.
  • Knowledge of Baldwin County Utility Regulations.
  • Ability to work overtime and non-standard hours.
