The Engineering Technician II position in Phenix City, AL, is a full-time role under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Engineering. The technician will be responsible for a variety of tasks that support the operations of the Engineering Department. This includes maintaining the City's storm water permit, conducting erosion and sediment control inspections, performing general inspections, and engaging in computer-aided drafting and plan reviews. The technician will also be responsible for maintaining accurate records and surveying activities. The role requires a combination of fieldwork and office work, with occasional travel out of town. The technician will work from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with overtime as needed, and will be compensated at a starting salary of $18.88 per hour. The essential duties of the Engineering Technician II include maintaining project files, maps, plats, and construction plans to ensure efficient record retrieval. The technician will record information and enter data into field books, daily reports, and databases to maintain accurate records. Assisting the survey crew is a key responsibility, which involves using various measuring tools and directing traffic when necessary. The technician will also assist in reviewing subdivision construction plans, survey plats, and utility construction plans to ensure compliance with city standards. Monitoring 404 permitting and phase II storm water permits is also part of the job. To qualify for this position, candidates must possess a high school diploma or GED and have four years of experience in an engineering, surveying, or math-related field. A valid driver's license is required. The role demands knowledge of basic mathematical principles, engineering and surveying principles, and proficiency in computer skills, including word processing and computer-aided drafting. The technician must be able to comprehend verbal and written instructions, interpret technical documents, and communicate effectively with supervisors, co-workers, and the public. Experience with erosion control measures is preferred. The position requires the ability to work in a safe manner and maintain a constant state of alertness.
