About the position

The Materials Engineering Technician III position at Terracon involves performing field and laboratory testing, observation, and inspection of construction materials such as soils, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, and steel. The role requires effective communication with project managers, engineering technicians, and other stakeholders regarding project requirements and testing results. The technician will also be responsible for transporting material samples, preparing reports, maintaining equipment, and adhering to safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Perform field and/or laboratory testing, observation, and inspection of construction materials.
  • Communicate with project manager, engineering technicians, client representatives, and contractors regarding project requirements and testing results.
  • Transport material samples to the laboratory for further testing and analysis.
  • Prepare and submit data and observations in written and digital reports for daily transmittal to the Project Manager.
  • Maintain and clean equipment, vehicles, and work areas.
  • Assist with scheduling and dispatch of Technicians to project sites.
  • Adhere to strict safety standards and report any safety issues to management.
  • Train lower-level technicians and lead activities of other engineering technicians as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of relevant experience or equivalent training and related experience.
  • Experience with laptop computer use and proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • ACI certification in one or more areas: Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I, Concrete Strength Testing Technician, Certified in radiation safety and Nuclear Density Gauge operation.
  • American Welding Society (AWS) Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or relevant certifications in structural steel and nondestructive testing services.
  • Successful completion of related internal safety certifications.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable violation history.

Nice-to-haves

  • NICET Level II certification in Construction Materials Testing in categories such as Asphalt, Concrete, Soils.
  • NICET Level II certification in Geotechnical in categories like Construction, Laboratory, Exploration, Generalist.
  • ICC certification in categories such as Reinforced Concrete, Spray-applied Fireproofing, Structural Masonry, Prestressed/Post-Tensioned Concrete, Structural Steel - Bolting, Structural Steel - Welding.
  • American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT) Level II certification in multiple areas such as Visual Testing (VT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), Dye Penetrant Testing (PT), Radiographic Testing (RT), Ultrasonic Testing (UT).
  • Other national, regional, state, and local Materials related certifications.
