The Traveling Construction Technician IV position at Terracon involves extensive travel to various high-profile construction projects across the nation, focusing on materials testing and inspection. The technician will perform observations and tests on materials such as soils, concrete, and asphalt, while also communicating results to project managers and stakeholders. Responsibilities

  • Travel to and from assigned projects.
  • Assist with tasks and perform basic sample tests and observations of construction materials under the direction of staff professionals or project managers.
  • Document and prepare sample testing and observation data using a laptop or tablet device; submit findings accurately to a Project Manager.
  • Communicate testing and inspection results effectively to project stakeholders.
  • Ensure proper calibration and maintenance of testing equipment and tools.
  • Follow safety rules and practices for all projects, performing pre-task planning and reporting safety issues to management.
  • Maintain quality standards on all projects and work cohesively as a team.
  • Transport materials safely from various job sites to the lab using a company-provided vehicle.

Requirements

  • 100% Travel Required
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5-10 years of relevant experience or equivalent training and related experience.
  • Experience with laptop computer use and Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • ACI certification in one or more areas: Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I, Concrete Strength Testing Technician, Certified in radiation safety and Nuclear Density Gauge operation.
  • American Welding Society (AWS) Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or relevant certifications for structural steel and nondestructive testing services.
  • Successful completion of related internal safety certifications.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable violation history.

Nice-to-haves

  • NICET Level III certification in Construction Materials Testing in two or more categories or NICET Level III in at least one category: Asphalt, Concrete, Soils.
  • NICET Level III certification in Geotechnical in two or more categories: Construction, Laboratory, Exploration, Generalist.
  • ICC certification in two or more categories: Reinforced Concrete, Spray-applied Fireproofing, Structural Masonry, Prestressed/Post-Tensioned Concrete, Structural Steel - Bolting, Structural Steel - Welding.
  • American Welding Society (AWS) Senior Certified Welding Inspector (SCWI).
  • American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT) Level III certification in one or more areas: Visual Testing (VT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), Dye Penetrant Testing (PT), Radiographic Testing (RT), Ultrasonic Testing (UT).
