Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, HI

About the position

As an Engineering Technician (Mechanical/Electrical) for the U.S. Pacific Fleet, you will play a crucial role in providing shipboard personnel with authoritative technical assistance in resolving complex problems that exceed their capabilities or knowledge. Your primary focus will be on Hull, Mechanical, and Electrical Systems aboard U.S. Navy submarines. This includes working on various systems such as Electrical Systems (motor controllers, motor generators, automatic and manual breakers, galley equipment, and vent heaters), Atmospheric Control, Ventilation Systems, and Hydraulic Systems. You will be expected to perform shipboard assessments of these systems, collaborating with Type Commanders and In-Service Engineering Activities (ISEA) to troubleshoot issues with Technical Manuals and procedures. Additionally, you will work closely with other engineers in the Planning and Engineering Department at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard to identify work and problem resolutions. This position requires a strong background in maintenance and technical support, particularly in the context of naval operations. You will be responsible for ensuring that all systems are functioning optimally and that any issues are addressed promptly and effectively. The role may involve travel to CONUS and OCONUS locations, including remote or isolated sites, and you must be prepared to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods. Safety is paramount, and you will be required to wear personal protective equipment continuously during your shifts, as you will be working in environments where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present. The position is subject to various conditions of employment, including the need for a security clearance and the ability to work uncommon hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, to meet mission requirements. You will also be expected to participate in medical surveillance programs and complete a pre-appointment physical examination. This role offers the flexibility of part-time, full-time, or ad-hoc telework at the discretion of management, and there may be opportunities for noncompetitive promotions based on performance and regulatory requirements.
