About the position

The Engineering Technician (Mechanical/Electrical) position at the U.S. Pacific Fleet involves providing technical assistance to shipboard personnel on U.S. Navy submarines. The role focuses on Hull, Mechanical, and Electrical Systems, ensuring that personnel can resolve complex issues that exceed their expertise. The technician will work with various systems, including electrical, atmospheric control, ventilation, and hydraulic systems, contributing to the operational readiness of the fleet.

Responsibilities

  • Provide authoritative technical assistance to shipboard personnel in resolving complex problems.
  • Work on Hull, Mechanical, and Electrical Systems onboard U.S. Navy submarines.
  • Assist with Electrical Systems, including motor controllers, motor generators, and breakers.
  • Evaluate and troubleshoot Atmospheric Control and Ventilation Systems.
  • Support Hydraulic Systems and Steering and Diving Systems operations.
  • Perform shipboard assessments of systems and collaborate with Type Commanders and In-Service Engineering Activities (ISEA).
  • Work with engineers in the Planning and Engineering Department to identify work and problem resolutions.

Requirements

  • Must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.
  • Experience working on Hull, Mechanical, and Electrical Systems onboard U.S. Navy submarines is preferred.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with military and commercial aircraft travel.
  • Knowledge of medical surveillance programs related to hazardous work environments.
