About the position

Toyota's Production Engineering Battery Department is seeking a passionate and highly motivated Engineering Technician (Seibi Technician) to join our team. This position is crucial as it involves executing the initial machine set-up for North America, enhancing Operation Availability (OA) through continuous improvement, and addressing technical issues. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the Battery department's objectives by executing Capital Projects from planning through to Start of Production (SOP), which includes modifying machine functions and designs. This role is based at Toyota Battery Manufacturing North Carolina (TBMNC) in Liberty, NC, and reports directly to the Seibi Manager for Battery. In this position, you will be responsible for testing and repairing electrical equipment or systems, which includes circuits, relay logic, wiring, motors, and servo drives. You will also write and modify programs for programmable logic controllers (PLC), robots, cameras, safety systems, and other electronic equipment. Troubleshooting and repairing machine components related to hydraulics and pneumatics will be part of your daily tasks. Additionally, you will plan and execute machine integration into mass production, ensuring quality conformation for your assigned work area. Basic administrative skills, including documentation of work performed, will also be required. Continuous improvement of safety, quality, and productivity is a key focus, and you will develop detailed schedules for your assigned work area or project while supporting machine trials at vendors and internal Toyota locations. Certifying the safety of equipment according to standards via a “Safety Integrity Check” is also part of your responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Execute initial machine set-up for North America as the North American initial machine set-up personnel (SV).
  • Increase Operation Availability (OA) through continuous improvement and problem-solving technical issues.
  • Support the Battery department's objective to execute Capital Projects from planning through Start of Production (SOP) by modifying machine function and design.
  • Test and repair electrical equipment or systems, including circuits, relay logic, wiring, motors, and servo drives.
  • Write and modify programs for programmable logic controllers (PLC), robots, cameras, safety systems, and other electronic equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair machine components related to hydraulics and pneumatics.
  • Plan and execute machine integration into mass production, ensuring quality conformation for assigned work area.
  • Perform basic administrative skills including documentation of work performed by written/electronic methods.
  • Engage in problem-solving and continuous improvement of safety, quality, and productivity.
  • Develop detailed schedules for assigned work area or project.
  • Demonstrate the ability to learn new processes by different means.
  • Support machine trials at vendors and internal Toyota locations.
  • Certify safety of equipment per the standards via 'Safety Integrity Check'.

Requirements

  • Industrial Controls Engineering/Engineering Tech experience in a manufacturing environment, including equipment installation, modification, and optimization.
  • Experience with electrical and/or mechanical systems in an industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Strong ability to write programs and modify existing programs for programmable logic controllers (PLC).
  • Working experience with Servo Motion Controllers (M-Code or SFC).
  • Technical experience with relay logic including wiring and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with hydraulic or pneumatic troubleshooting and schematic reading.
  • Availability to work overtime, holidays, weekends, and shutdowns, including business travel, both domestic and international, up to 30%.
  • Ability to complete all physical requirements of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation.
