About the position

The Engineering Technician Senior (ETS) position at the Iowa Department of Transportation plays a vital role in enhancing the state and national transportation systems in Iowa. The ETS will be involved in the development of construction projects, including identifying needs, providing recommendations, and evaluating existing highway systems. This position requires collaboration with a team to manage project schedules, prepare design plans, and utilize advanced technology to improve agency resources and customer service.

Responsibilities

• Develop projects that enhance state and national transportation systems.
• Identify needs and provide recommendations for highway systems.
• Evaluate existing highway systems and aid in project management.
• Prepare final design plans for 3R or MP funding sources.
• Prepare plan sheets and calculations for project letting using CADD programs.
• Identify bid items and prepare tabulations for projects.
• Perform or coordinate necessary field work for projects.
• Submit plan sets to the Contracts Bureau and coordinate with other projects.

Requirements

• Possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
• Experience with Project Management Systems and CADD/MicroStation.
• Knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and asset management systems.

Nice-to-haves

• Familiarity with digital formats for project documentation.
