About the position

The Engineering Technician Specialist is responsible for managing and maintaining the product development lab, ensuring that all equipment is organized, inventoried, and in good working order. This role involves close collaboration with the engineering team to validate designs, conduct hardware evaluations, and perform software control system tests. The specialist will also develop test setups, provide fabrication assistance, evaluate system performance, and document test results while becoming an expert in Ross Video products.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain the product development lab including organization, hardware inventory, and network configurations.
  • Validate prototype and preproduction designs to ensure specifications are met.
  • Conduct hardware physical layer evaluations and signal content analysis.
  • Perform software control system tests including general operation, GUI validation, automation/scripting, and workflow analysis.
  • Develop test setups to replicate issues faced by customers and tech support.
  • Provide hands-on fabrication and rework assistance including frame assembly and PCB rework.
  • Evaluate systems for thermal performance under various operational configurations.
  • Manage and document test results and bug status.
  • Drive bug triage and follow-up activities.
  • Screen bugs reported by product validation and tech support.
  • Work with product validation to develop and perform nightly regression software tests and report on overall system performance trends.
  • Become an expert in Ross Video products through documentation review and direct product interaction.

Requirements

  • Above average PC/Windows/Linux computer skills.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel & Visio with advanced VBA authoring a plus.
  • Basic networking configuration & maintenance skills including IP addressing and routing.
  • Experience with network analysis and capture tools (e.g., Wireshark, Fluke LinkRunner).
  • Experience in broadcast/video workflow and associated technologies.
  • Good working experience with test equipment such as oscilloscopes and network analyzers.
  • Knowledge of SDI, AES, and associated SMPTE standards.
  • Familiarity with scripting languages such as Python, Tcl, Bash, or DOS.
  • Surface mount and through-hole soldering experience.
  • Degree or certification in Electronic Technology.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as an electronics technician.

Nice-to-haves

  • Broadcast engineering experience strongly preferred.
  • Past experience in Product Development is an asset.
  • Familiarity with UI test automation tools (e.g., AutoIT, Selenium).
