About the position

The Engineering Technician/Technologist position at Schlumberger involves hands-on work in designing, assembling, operating, and optimizing prototypes for Mid-Stream processing equipment. The role requires creativity and collaboration to translate conceptual ideas into functional pilot prototype equipment for testing and evaluation, while ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Complete the design and assembly of pilot systems and prototypes, translating conceptual ideas into functional equipment for testing and research.
  • Prepare detailed project budgets and realistic project schedules.
  • Assist project manager for design, construction, and installation phases of pilot or prototype development.
  • Size, select, and purchase equipment and materials for pilots and prototypes.
  • Manage vendors on equipment sizing, design, operation, and service.
  • Generate and interpret process, electrical, and instrument wiring diagrams.
  • Develop and document operational procedures to guide research engineers in utilizing testing equipment.
  • Communicate with contractors on work scope and re quotations.
  • Supervise and guide contractors and train internal employees on processes and operations.
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory and process equipment, such as pumps, heaters, industrial instrumentation, and control systems.
  • Maintain and manage PLC equipment and applications.
  • Ensure safe operation of multicomponent, and multi system, mechanical, electrical or chemical prototypes, and pilots.
  • Take ownership of testing campaigns, from planning through execution and analysis, to optimize prototype performance and assure data accuracy.
  • Troubleshoot problems occurring with pilots and prototypes and work with the Research Engineering team to address unexpected results.
  • Assist in writing and maintaining standard operating procedures (SOPs) and train team members as needed.
  • Evaluate projects for operational and safety risks and develop strategies to mitigate these risks.

Requirements

  • Demonstrable working knowledge and experience with Oil, Water, and Gas production processes and operations.
  • Proficiency in standard Oil, Water, and Gas processing technologies and techniques.
  • Experience in operating and maintaining complex mechanical systems, laboratory equipment, and industrial scale process equipment.
  • Knowledge of instrumentation and control systems, PLCs, and PLC programming.
  • Familiarity with process sensors (Temperature, Pressure, Level, Flow, pH).
  • Understanding of standard industrial communication protocols and Ethernet networking principles.
  • Experience with hydraulic and pneumatic systems and equipment.
  • Knowledge of process piping and pressure vessel codes and standards.
  • Experience with low and medium voltage electrical systems and equipment.
  • Ability to generate and interpret process, electrical, and instrument wiring diagrams.
  • Mechanical assembly skills and knowledge of standard process operation practices and procedures.
  • Proficiency in AutoCad, Visio, MS Word, and Excel.
  • Experience with standard chemical laboratory operations and protocols.
  • Knowledge of standard mechanical workshop operations and safety protocols.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for mechanical, electrical, and process systems.
