This position is located in the Memorial Service Network (MSN V) Office in Oakland, California, and functions as an Engineering Technician. The incumbent will serve as an advisor providing guidance, direction, and policy interpretation on a wide range of subjects that vary in complexity. These subjects include Engineering Technical Support, Environmental Management, Equipment Management, and support for both major and minor construction projects. The role also involves conducting research and analysis, as well as managing special projects that may require producing complex analyses and written reports. The Engineering Technician will be responsible for preparing, designing, and reviewing specifications for construction projects, ensuring that contract documents comply with National Cemetery Administration (NCA) criteria and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requirements. The incumbent will maintain and update as-built drawings and cemetery gravesite layout plans for national cemeteries. Additionally, the technician will review assigned plans, specifications, and estimates, recommending corrective actions for any deficiencies or omissions. Monitoring the progress of projects to ensure compliance with the Scope of Work, specifications, and adherence to project schedules is also a key responsibility, along with making recommendations to ensure a quality end product. This is a term appointment not to exceed two years, with the possibility of extension or conversion to permanent status after two years of continuous service. The work schedule is full-time, requiring the incumbent to work Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with occasional weekends and holidays as necessary to meet the needs of the cemetery. Due to the nature of the work, staff may be required to work on Memorial Day and Veteran's Day each year, and may also be called back for emergency overtime work.
