About the position

The Engineering Technician (Transportation) at the Presidio Trust supports the Planning and Compliance Department by working on transportation projects, systems, and data collection to enhance the development and management of a safe and sustainable transportation network. This role involves technical problem-solving, data analysis, and collaboration with engineers to optimize systems within the Presidio, a national park site in San Francisco.

Responsibilities

  • Perform technical work assignments involving various processes and procedures.
  • Analyze project objectives and adjust standard procedures based on field conditions.
  • Recommend changes to practices and procedures for similar studies.
  • Extract and interpret data from various sources, ensuring quality assurance and data integrity.
  • Draft technical documentation for engineering assignments.
  • Select methods for presenting data for internal use.
  • Keep records, prepare reports, and make recommendations to engineers and supervisors.
  • Participate in the development and maintenance of data systems.
  • Inspect, test, and calibrate equipment, recommending modifications as needed.
  • Install and collect data from portable traffic counters and speed measurement equipment.
  • Measure construction work to confirm conformance with accessibility standards.
  • Review findings and suggest improvements to engineers and supervisors.
  • Assess the condition and operation of traffic-related equipment periodically.
  • Prepare and modify drawings using AutoCAD, illustrating technical standards and dimensions.
  • Review construction drawings for compliance with standards and project requirements.
  • Compute and tabulate quantities of construction materials and perform quality assurance checks on estimates.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by one year of directly engineering-related college coursework.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in computer-assisted drafting, construction, or engineering-related work.
  • Familiarity with civil engineering and transportation engineering industry standards, including accessibility standards.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with AutoCAD and ArcGIS.
  • Valid California Driver's License.
