About the position

The City of Simi Valley is seeking an Engineering Technician for the Public Works Department, specifically within the Ventura County Waterworks District 8. This full-time position involves performing specialized technical engineering activities related to various projects, alongside paraprofessional office and field engineering work. The role offers an alternative 9/80 work schedule, allowing for a day off every other week, and provides a competitive salary with excellent benefits.

Responsibilities

  • Perform specialized technical engineering activities related to ongoing projects.
  • Conduct field inspections for water utility projects including pipelines, pump stations, and storage tanks.
  • Assist in preparing technical reports, design drawings, specifications, and construction contracts.
  • Utilize AutoCAD and other software to complete technical tasks effectively.
  • Develop interpersonal relationships with employees and management across departments.
  • Estimate completion times for activities based on priorities and schedules.
  • Communicate ideas and proposals effectively in both verbal and written formats.

Requirements

  • Completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by two years of college-level coursework in engineering, drafting, or a related area.
  • Two years of increasingly responsible technical engineering experience.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid driver's license.

Nice-to-haves

  • General knowledge of water system engineering concepts and civil engineering principles.
  • Experience with public works engineering-related work.
