About the position

SAIC is seeking a motivated and skilled Engineering Technician who will work effectively in a fast-paced collaborative environment at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center in Newport, RI. This position involves providing technician support and expertise to a cross-functional team, ensuring that engineering and fabrication problems of moderate scope and complexity are addressed in an expeditious, efficient, and timely manner. The technician will be responsible for hardware fabrication and assembly of systems, cables, and wire harnesses, supporting various engineering activities such as design, testing, checkout, modification, fabrication, and assembly of prototype electromechanical systems. Applications may include electronic circuits, photonics, and logic systems. The role requires working from schematics, diagrams, written and verbal descriptions, layouts, or defined plans to perform testing, checkout, and troubleshooting functions. The technician will assist in determining methods or actions to remedy malfunctions and will be responsible for collecting, maintaining, organizing, compiling, and manipulating technical data. Additionally, the technician will provide redlines or identify issues with engineering documentation, reports, or drawings, including sketches, flow charts, diagrams, and schematics.

Responsibilities

  • Provides technician support and expertise to a cross-functional team.
  • Provides solution recommendations to engineering and fabrication problems of moderate scope and complexity.
  • Hardware fabrication and assembly of systems, cables, and wire harnesses.
  • Supports engineering activities such as design, test, checkout, modification, fabrication, and assembly of prototype electro-mechanical systems.
  • Works from schematics, diagrams, written and verbal descriptions, layouts, or defined plans to perform testing, checkout, and troubleshooting functions.
  • Assists in determining methods or actions to remedy malfunctions.
  • Collects, maintains, organizes, compiles, and manipulates technical data.
  • Provides redlines or identifies issues with engineering documentation, reports, or drawings.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in a technical field; High school diploma or GED certificate.
  • Candidate must be a US Citizen.
  • Must currently possess an active Secret Clearance with the ability to obtain a TS Clearance.
  • Production cable building experience.
  • Experience with Electro-mechanical hardware design and fabrication.
  • Ability to read schematics/drawings and troubleshoot from schematics/drawings.
  • Ability to use a variety of precision measuring tools, including multi-meters, micrometers, calipers, and other similar metrology devices.
  • Attention to detail.

  • CSRR experience.
  • Common Submarine Radio Room (CSRR) experience.
