About the position

The Engineering Technician will serve in the Public Works Department of the Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command (NAVFAC) Atlantic, primarily focused on supporting construction projects at Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti, Africa. This is a full-time temporary position with a travel requirement of 76% or greater, and it is expected to last no more than one year. The role involves preparing technical specifications, reviewing shop drawings, and participating in technical reviews for construction contracts.

Responsibilities

• Prepare technical specifications and drawings in accordance with Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) for Category three and four construction projects.
• Review and recommend approval of shop drawings, manufacturer's data, and materials from contractors on CAT 3/4 construction contracts.
• Participate as a team member on CAT 3/4 and FSC Technical Review sessions.
• Utilize various software packages for preparing specifications, making cost estimates, preparing schedules, and tracking requirements.

Requirements

• Must be a US Citizen.
• Must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.
• Experience in construction reviews of plans and specifications for technical soundness and practicability.
• Knowledge of construction project scheduling to track project progress.
• Ability to prepare technical analysis, cost estimates, and review engineering designs for proposed changes.
• Ensure compliance with safety and environmental requirements.

Nice-to-haves

• Certification in the Acquisition Functional Area and category assigned to the position is preferred.
