About the position

HelixBind, Inc. is seeking an energetic and highly motivated Engineering Technician to play a key role in product development within a dynamic, early-stage medical device company. This position involves maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing medical diagnostic instruments, as well as commissioning new equipment. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment and will be responsible for a diverse range of tasks that contribute to continuous improvement and product excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a deep understanding of the company's medical diagnostic instruments.
  • Assist in building and maintaining instruments both in-house and at vendor sites.
  • Construct test fixtures to meet R&D, manufacturing, and quality requirements.
  • Commission, troubleshoot, repair, and analyze medical device instruments.
  • Perform verification procedures on instrument builds.
  • Execute equipment upgrades and perform routine calibration, verifying conformance.
  • Collaborate with the Engineering Group to develop and maintain comprehensive maintenance protocols and documentation.
  • Maintain and update user manuals and maintenance protocols within the document control system.
  • Work closely with the Engineering Group to troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, optical, electromechanical, firmware, and software issues.
  • Provide valuable feedback to the design and build team on instrument performance to drive continuous product improvement.
  • Collaborate with the Quality Group to ensure compliance with all procedures and protocols.
  • Perform IQ/OQ and PM onsite and, as needed, at customer sites.
  • Conduct routine electrical, mechanical, and optical preventative and corrective maintenance on instruments.
  • Contribute to other tasks and projects as required to support the company's objectives.

Requirements

  • 2-5 years of hands-on experience with electrical and mechanical parts installation and repair.
  • Associate's degree in a technical field or equivalent trade school certification; relevant experience will also be considered.
  • Strong electro-mechanical aptitude and hands-on proficiency with electronic and mechanical assembly tools and fixtures.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical/mechanical drawings, equipment manuals, and technical specifications.
  • Basic understanding of interfacing with and troubleshooting various electrical, electromechanical, and firmware components.
  • Proficiency with PCs, including basic hardware, software, and networking.
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong ability to analyze and troubleshoot technical issues effectively.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with Class II/III medical devices, 21 CFR 820.30, and FDA 510(k) processes is preferred.
