About the position

The Engineering Technician position at FirstEnergy involves ensuring the reliability and assessment of the Distribution function. This mobile role requires the technician to be located within an hour of Brecksville, Ohio, and involves frequent visits to local job sites. The technician will respond to customer inquiries regarding power quality and reliability, conduct regulatory inspections, and collaborate with various departments to enhance service delivery and reliability initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate and direct a solid commitment to all aspects of safety.
  • Respond to customer inquiries concerning reliability, voltage, and power quality concerns.
  • Complete required regulatory overhead and/or underground inspections as assigned.
  • Act as a liaison and troubleshooter for customers, interpreting conflicting data between manufacturers and technicians.
  • Work on special projects as business needs require.
  • Support Claims and Customer Service Departments on distribution systems and Power Quality investigations.
  • Accompany Marketing Representatives to meetings where technical support is needed.
  • Perform comprehensive outage analysis and make recommendations to improve reliability and power quality.
  • Review and interpret reliability data and propose solutions for reliability issues.
  • Evaluate equipment for power quality investigations and provide technical support.
  • Identify equipment needs and present business cases for funding decisions.
  • Provide troubleshooting training to the Line department and Engineering support.
  • Conduct reliability investigations based on customer concerns regarding voltage issues.
  • Conduct stray voltage investigations.
  • Collaborate with planning engineers on reliability projects and worst performing circuits.
  • Act as backup for management as needed.

Requirements

  • Strong commitment to safety practices and procedures.
  • Experience in responding to customer inquiries regarding power quality and reliability.
  • Knowledge of state regulatory requirements for distribution inspection and maintenance.
  • Ability to interpret technical data and provide troubleshooting support.
  • Experience in conducting outage analysis and reliability investigations.
  • Familiarity with power quality equipment and software.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in working with regulatory agencies.
  • Knowledge of Electric and Magnetic Fields (EMF) and Radio Frequency Interference (RFI).
  • Experience in customer service and technical support roles.
