About the position

As the Engineering Technician at Sonosite, you will play a crucial role in the development and optimization of ultrasound transducers. This position involves working closely with transducer manufacturing engineers to enhance the building processes, conduct failure analysis, and implement strategies for scrap and cost reduction. You will be part of a team that is dedicated to innovation in point-of-care ultrasound technology, which is vital for improving healthcare delivery in various settings, including leading institutions and underserved communities around the globe. Your responsibilities will include performing complex and detailed process work on ultrasound array transducer assemblies, building prototypes during the initial feasibility research and engineering development stages, and assisting in the setup of process, test, and evaluation equipment in the transducer engineering lab. You will follow assembly instructions meticulously to ensure high-quality output and conduct performance tests on array transducers during the assembly process. Additionally, you will analyze product performance, maintain records of engineering work, and provide technical support to customers and engineers. This role requires a self-starting, motivated individual who can work independently and collaboratively within a team. You will be expected to demonstrate sound judgment and decision-making skills while tackling the challenges associated with transducer manufacturing. Your contributions will directly impact the quality and efficiency of the products we deliver, ensuring that clinicians can make the best clinical decisions for their patients.

Responsibilities

  • Perform complex and detailed process work on ultrasound array transducer assemblies.
  • Build transducer prototypes in initial feasibility research and engineering development stages.
  • Assist in the setup of process, test, and evaluation equipment in the transducer engineering lab.
  • Follow transducer assembling instructions and perform the tasks with solid quality.
  • Perform array transducer performance tests using equipment during the assembling process.
  • Analyze transducer product performance per work instructions.
  • Provide suggestions for ways to improve transducer products, assembling tools, or equipment.
  • Perform general diagnostics and root cause finding of array transducers.
  • Maintain records and files of all completed engineering work per oral or document instructions.
  • Perform general maintenance on test equipment, and order and replace equipment parts.
  • Perform general procurement tasks for transducer materials, such as PZT and matching layers.
  • Provide technical support to customers and engineers from the transducer engineering or other teams in Fujifilm Sonosite.
  • Ensure that all safety procedures are observed during laboratory work.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in engineering technology highly desired.
  • Minimum of 2+ years working as an engineering technician.
  • In-depth experience in assembling complex array transducers from initial material casting, bonding, machining, dicing, lensing, interconnection to final testing and/or packaging.
  • Proven ability to perform array transducer assembly by choosing and utilizing correct tools and methods.
  • Experience with destructive tools such as sectioning saws, dicing saws, grinders/lappers, etc.
  • Excellent hand-eye coordination and able to work for extended periods of time under a microscope.
  • Moderate mechanical skills to support assembly and disassembly.
  • Ability to read and understand simple schematic diagrams and assembly/transducer drawings.
  • Operational understanding of common bench test equipment.
  • Ability to multitask and implement effective time management.
  • Ability to understand and interpret simple engineering terminology.
  • Discipline in following established procedures/processes.
  • Good oral and written communication skills are required.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products.
  • Ability to follow engineering directions with minimal supervision.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated intellectual curiosity.
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds, with or without accommodations.
