The Engineering Technician plays a crucial role in supporting hardware and software engineering activities, which include the design, testing, checkout, modification, fabrication, and assembly of prototype electro-mechanical systems. This position also involves experimental design circuitry, as well as auditing, testing, and debugging software products in accordance with established test plans and procedures. The Engineering Technician will work from schematics, diagrams, written and verbal descriptions, layouts, or defined plans to perform testing, checkout, and troubleshooting functions. Responsibilities include conducting operational tests and fault isolation on software, systems, and equipment. The technician will maintain documentation on results, report findings to engineering, and may assist in determining methods or actions to remedy malfunctions. Additionally, the technician will assist product development engineers in diagnosing and replicating product failures, utilizing various manufacturing, testing, development, or diagnostic equipment, including test programs, oscilloscopes, signal generators, and specialized test apparatus. This is an entry-level position where work is supervised daily or weekly, encompassing a well-defined set of tasks. The technician will follow established procedures, processes, or policies, with frequent reviews of work for overall adequacy and accuracy. As the technician develops a good knowledge of the company, they may be assigned to projects for career development, learning the principles, practices, and processes in the function, and developing the business knowledge required for the full job. Problem resolution may occur with assistance from peers or supervisors, depending on the level and complexity of the issues encountered. The technician will adhere to defined procedures and practices throughout their work.
