About the position

Our Vehicle Platform Engineering team is on the lookout for a highly experienced Engineering Technician with a robust background in automotive systems, prototyping, and manufacturing processes. In this hands-on position, you will work closely with prototype vehicle fabrication, OEM system diagnostics, maintenance, and repair. The ideal candidate will have extensive technical knowledge of automotive systems and components, as well as experience in optimizing assembly processes for small-batch prototype vehicle production. As an individual contributor, you will play a key role in our innovative and fast-paced environment, where teamwork and collaboration are essential. This role demands strong problem-solving skills and a proactive, team-oriented attitude to drive our prototype development efforts forward.

Responsibilities

  • Build, test, and validate Autonomous Vehicle electrical and mechanical hardware on prototype or production vehicles.
  • Build, test, and validate Autonomous Vehicle electrical and mechanical hardware on Hardware in the Loop (HiL) benches.
  • Use debugging tools such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, Vector CAN analysis software and tools, and PC-based diagnostic software.
  • Triage and troubleshoot mechanical/electrical system issues and document for issue resolution.
  • Work closely with R&D Engineering teams to understand new design requirements and provide useful feedback.
  • Create and follow SOPs, checklists, and internal service bulletins.
  • Contribute to a high-performance team that fosters a zero-defect, quality first mindset.
  • Assist engineers in the development and testing of new automotive prototypes.
  • Conduct hands-on prototyping and assembly of electrical & mechanical systems, providing feedback on design improvements from a technician's perspective.
  • Assist in the assembly of vehicles, ensuring all mechanical, electrical, and software components function correctly.
  • Perform detailed system tests and inspections to validate vehicle readiness and compliance with safety standards.
  • Perform diagnostics and repair on a wide range of automotive and autonomous systems.
  • Utilize advanced diagnostic tools and techniques to identify and troubleshoot issues.
  • Serve as a technical expert for vehicle prototyping, diagnostics and repair, working with engineers in other departments to provide clear communication and resolutions for technical issues.
  • Conduct routine preventive maintenance on vehicles and manufacturing equipment to ensure maximum uptime and reliability.
  • Ensure all repairs and modifications comply with industry safety standards and internal quality control protocols.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of hands-on experience in automotive/ industrial repair, diagnostics, prototyping or manufacturing, ideally within a high-tech environment such as Electric Vehicle, Autonomous Vehicle, Aerospace, Robotics or similar industry.
  • Functional knowledge of automotive systems (electrical, CAN, HVAC, etc.) and the ability to troubleshoot and repair these systems.
  • Knowledge of common vehicle electrical and networking systems (CAN, LIN, Ethernet, etc.).
  • Experienced with automotive sensors and networks - such as lidars, radars, cameras, GPS, IMUs, CAN bus, and data networks.
  • Hands-on experience with Automotive diagnostics (UDS) systems, OBD tools and automotive networks (CAN, Ethernet).
  • Familiarity with CAD software and technical drawings for reading and interpreting schematics.
  • Ability to collaborate with engineers to provide input on assembly processes, focusing on manufacturability and serviceability.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with experience in wire harness fabrication, metal fabrication, or machining.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a focus on quick and effective solutions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience working within a Manufacturing Execution System (MES) during high volume periods.
  • Experience with an issue-tracking and task management software platform such as JIRA, Polarion and Confluence.
  • Strong analytical and creative problem-solving, documenting, and issue resolution skills.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • ASE Certifications or equivalent certifications in automotive systems.
  • IPC-A-620 Wire Harness Certification.
  • Solid Works, Fusion 360 or similar related CAD software.
  • Advanced Vehicle Electronics Troubleshooting.
  • OEM Electric Vehicle Certification/Training.
  • Prior Experience with AV technology and related components/modules.
  • Prior Experience in Prototyping Automobiles or working on custom automotive builds.
