About the position

The Engineering Technician position within the Department of the Navy involves providing technical support and oversight for calibration laboratory measurement systems and test equipment. The role includes reviewing and approving technical documentation, developing calibration approaches for various equipment, and serving as the government technical authority for contractor operations. This position is critical for ensuring the accuracy and reliability of measurement systems used in support of Navy operations.

Responsibilities

  • Review and coordinate approval of technical documentation submitted by the SWFLANT Navy Calibration Laboratory (NCL) contractor.
  • Review and approve external vendor capabilities for laboratory support services.
  • Develop alternative approaches for calibration support for new or unique Test, Measurement, and Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE).
  • Conduct analysis and studies to develop calibration approaches for mechanical, electro-mechanical, electrical, electronic, and microwave TMDE.
  • Provide technical review of calibration problem reports and corrective actions developed by the SWFLANT NCL contractor.
  • Develop and administer metrology quality verification and process monitoring/surveillance inspections within SWFLANT NCL.
  • Serve as government technical authority to the SWFLANT NCL contractor.
  • Coordinate internal and external audits and inspections of the SWFLANT NCL.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
  • Must obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license.
  • Must obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty.
  • Specialized experience assessing technical engineering configuration and design on calibration laboratory measurement systems and test equipment.
