About the position

The Engineering Technician role is a temp to perm position at a high-growth R&D company specializing in High Temperature Superconductor (HTS) based transmission lines. The technician will support the Engineering Lab team by designing and executing experiments to evaluate product performance, while also building and assembling mechanical and electrical laboratory equipment.

Responsibilities

• Build and assemble mechanical and electrical laboratory equipment; set-up sensing and recording equipment including data acquisition, power supplies, current sensors, voltage sensors, etc.
• Maintain laboratory site and experimental facilities, ensuring orderliness and cleanliness, and coordinating craft work, site preparation, and clean-up.
• Produce and follow detailed SOPs and documentation for lab procedures, equipment, and parameters.
• Work with hand-operated power tools and basic shop equipment, including ladders, scissor lifts, forklifts, and other heavy equipment, as well as handling liquid nitrogen and pressurized systems.

Requirements

• 2+ years of experience building electro-mechanical test equipment in a laboratory environment.
• Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
• Proven mechanical aptitude with the ability to use hand tools and power tools.
• Experience using test equipment such as multimeters and calipers.
• Experience with Liquid Cryogens and handling Heat Transfer Systems is a plus.
• Outstanding communication (written and verbal) skills, with a motivated, self-starter attitude and a detail-oriented approach to problem solving.
• Ability to manage multiple projects with competing priorities under pressure and tight deadlines.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, ever-changing R&D, team-oriented environment.
