About the position

The Engineering Workforce Development Manager will lead and manage educational activities for the NSF Engineering Research Center for Smart Streetscapes (CS3). Reporting to the Managing Director, this role involves collaboration with faculty and administrative teams to ensure the successful implementation of educational programs, focusing on diversity, equity, and inclusion. The manager will oversee curriculum development, organize events, and evaluate educational initiatives, ensuring impactful outcomes for students and teachers.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a project timetable and meeting schedule for CS3's education activities to ensure project progress and success.
  • Regularly check in with CS3 workforce development leadership team members to collect project updates and offer administrative support.
  • Manage the list of current collaborations, active conversations, new initiatives, and upcoming deadlines/milestones for CS3's workforce development activities.
  • Serve as liaison with other synergistic educational activities across the university.
  • Implement and track efforts to enhance diversity, equity, and inclusion across the education program.
  • Manage curriculum development and course offerings at all CS3 institutions.
  • Lead content delivery with certain educational programs, such as with K-12 students and teachers.
  • Oversee the recruitment of interns and qualified course assistants.
  • Manage the CS3 Student Leadership Council.
  • Lead efforts that recruit and support participants for student and teacher research experience programs.
  • Oversee the submission and processing of course syllabi and micro-credential proposals for departmental and school approvals at Columbia.
  • Manage efforts for the organization of educational events, such as "train the trainer" workshops and research experience programs' poster sessions.
  • Liaise with university IT & facilities personnel to set up and secure CS3 educational event A/V equipment/resources for various event formats.
  • Fulfill reporting needs for all internal and external constituents to assure accurate data for assessment of all events.
  • Manage marketing and advertisements for upcoming events and projects; manage registration and event communications.
  • Facilitate and coordinate collaborations with education partners inside and outside Columbia.
  • Collaborate with potential partners on educational initiatives.
  • Manage CS3's Evaluator for the evaluation of CS3's educational activities, including documentation and disseminating surveys.
  • Compile, analyze, and track efforts to enhance diversity and culture of inclusion progress for CS3 education and workforce development activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and/or its equivalent required, with a preference for training in education or relevant fields.
  • 3-5 years of related experience in educational programming.
  • At least 3 years' experience in education program development and management.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with a proven track record of taking initiative and prioritizing tasks.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform non-routine work, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and work independently as well as within teams.
  • Proficient in Google productivity applications, Slack, Program Management tools (e.g., Asana), MS Office, virtual events/webinars, and Internet utilization.
  • Ability to use independent judgment to make decisions and guide projects, balancing the center's mission and long-term program/project goals while also attending closely to immediate needs.
  • Flexibility and adaptability when presented with unexpected changes of course; willingness to fill a need or solve a problem through creative initiative.
  • Strategic initiative-taking skills, especially in problem-solving, and anticipating/mitigating risks.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with data analysis, visualization of learning outcomes, and evaluation is a plus.

Benefits

  • Salary range of $73,000 to $80,000 based on qualifications and experience.
