The Engineering position at LKQ involves managing projects from their initial concept and design stages through to financial justification and implementation, all while adhering to project schedules and budgets. The role requires a thorough analysis of plant processes to design and implement efficient and cost-effective improvements. A significant aspect of the job is exploring innovative automation solutions, designing control systems, and ensuring their effective implementation. The engineer will also be responsible for addressing integration challenges related to plant equipment, managing multiple projects simultaneously to optimize facility support, and creatively solving problems as they arise. In addition to project management, the engineer will provide project cost estimates, maintain project schedules, and coordinate related activities. The role includes creating CAD layouts for equipment, workflow, and assembly methods, as well as developing various equipment programs, including Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Human Machine Interfaces (HMI), and Artificial Intelligence (AI) for diverse manufacturing projects. Support for automation, electrical, and Computer Numeric Control (CNC) issues will be provided, whether on-site, via phone, or online. The engineer will also be responsible for unscheduled emergency troubleshooting and repairs of production equipment within the plant. Maintaining up-to-date backup documentation for all electrical, electronic machines, and controller programs is crucial, along with effectively communicating any changes to the relevant personnel. The engineer will practice Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) procedures and follow safe electrical work practices, serving as a leader in promoting safety within the workplace. Other related duties may be assigned as necessary, although this position does not include supervisory responsibilities.
