About the position

South Puget Sound Community College (SPSCC) is seeking an engaging and dedicated adjunct English Instructor to join our Humanities and Communication Division. The English Instructor will play a crucial role in fostering a community of learners, emphasizing student success in all decision-making processes. This position is part-time and will involve teaching English courses such as English 101 (English Composition I) and English 102 (Composition II). The successful candidate will be responsible for creating and facilitating contextualized and integrated learning experiences that align with identified college pathways linked to career goals. In this role, the instructor will develop authentic assessments to measure students' knowledge, skills, and abilities in English, ensuring alignment with course, program, and college-wide outcomes. The instructor will apply diverse teaching and learning strategies that engage students across affective, cognitive, and kinesthetic domains. Additionally, the instructor will support students both in and out of the classroom, guiding them to campus services and resources as needed. The position requires flexibility in scheduling, as classes may be taught on various days and times, depending on the needs of the college and students. Responsibilities

  • Apply multiple teaching and learning strategies that promote the affective, cognitive, and kinesthetic domains of learning.
  • Support students in and out of the classroom, directing them to campus services and resources as needed.
  • Seek opportunities for teaching and learning excellence.
  • Contribute to the technical and general education of students, helping them apply learning to the world of work and transfer their education to a university.
  • Be available to teach classes on a variety of days and times.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in English or a related area from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience teaching college-level composition.
