About the position

The English Instructor position at Kern Community College District is a part-time adjunct role focused on providing instruction in a variety of English and Reading courses. Responsibilities

• Provide instruction in a full range of English and Reading courses.
• Teach at various campus sites and through different modalities, including distance learning.
• Participate in student recruitment and articulation of transfer programs for the English department.
• Maintain subject matter currency and develop/revise curriculum.
• Utilize computer and multimedia technology in teaching.
• Engage in departmental, college, and discipline-specific professional activities.

Requirements

• Master's in English, literature, comparative literature, or composition; OR Bachelor's in any of the above AND Master's in linguistics, TESL, speech, education with a specialization in reading, creative writing, or journalism; OR equivalent qualifications.
• Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
• Ability to work effectively with colleagues and students in a diverse environment.
• Ability to develop curriculum and assess student learning outcomes.
• Strong communication skills, both orally and in writing.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in teaching large classes and using multiple teaching methodologies.
