About the position
The English / Language Arts Faculty position at Sauk Valley Community College is a full-time, tenure-track role available starting Fall 2025. This position involves teaching responsibilities primarily on campus, with potential opportunities for online instruction. Faculty members are expected to engage in various college activities, including office hours, committee participation, and meetings, while supporting the college's mission and assessing student learning outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Support and promote the philosophy and mission of the college.
- Participate in the college-wide process for assessing student learning.
- Regularly assess student learning in the classroom and adapt instruction accordingly.
- Review the need for courses, programs, and curriculum changes as part of strategic planning.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge in the field of instruction.
- Care for the equipment and property under assigned jurisdiction.
- Prepare reports upon request by the appropriate supervisor.
- Keep accurate grade logs and attendance records in the Learning Management System.
- Notify the appropriate supervisor if regularly assigned duties cannot be performed.
- Attend all division/program/area meetings and faculty discussion hours.
- Establish and maintain office hours for student conferences.
- Advise students when appropriate.
- Inform students of class work below the 'C' level by the fifth week of the semester.
- Develop an annual set of goals for the instructional area in consultation with the supervisor.
Requirements
- Master's degree in English rhetoric and composition.
- Experience teaching college developmental learners.
- Preference for individuals with graduate hours or certification in developmental reading, writing, or post-secondary literacy.
- Experience teaching developmental and co-requisite classes is preferred.
- Preference for candidates with college or high school teaching experience.
