About the position

John T. Nichols, Jr. Middle School seeks an ELA teacher to join the English department. The successful candidate will have experience planning, implementing, and adapting curriculum based on the Massachusetts ELA Curriculum Frameworks and creating and executing curriculum units using the Understanding by Design template. The successful candidate will set high expectations for students and employ differentiation to support all learners. The candidate will be familiar with MCAS and next generation MCAS in regards to the skills, subject matter, and test format. As a professional, the successful candidate will display a collegial spirit which supports and enhances continual professional growth consistent with the educational goals and philosophies of the Middleborough School community.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with all faculty members, including but not limited to, building principal, department leader, special educators, instructional coaches, paraprofessionals, and other support personnel.
  • Provide literature instruction through Book Clubs and a Reader's and Writer's Workshop Model.
  • Assess students regularly and refine and differentiate classroom instruction based on assessment data and student needs.
  • Deliver instruction to a variety of students enrolled in ELA courses, grades 6-8.
  • Develop and implement differentiated lesson plans, classroom activities, and assessments aligned with Massachusetts ELA Curriculum Frameworks.
  • Provide timely and effective feedback to students.
  • Engage in co-teaching practices and positively collaborate with all faculty.
  • Employ effective 1:1 classroom technology strategies.
  • Communicate regularly with students and involve families as partners in learning.
  • Possess strong classroom management skills.
  • Create a dynamic and engaging classroom environment that is reflective of best teaching practices.
  • Maintain consistent communication and interpersonal skills with both students and staff.
  • Demonstrate a strong work ethic, enthusiasm, positive attitude, and sincere interest in supporting the achievement of all students.

Requirements

  • Experience planning, implementing, and adapting curriculum based on the Massachusetts ELA Curriculum Frameworks.
  • Familiarity with MCAS and next generation MCAS in regards to skills, subject matter, and test format.
  • Strong classroom management skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and families.
