About the position

The English Language Proficiency Teacher (Bilingual ELPT Teacher - Spanish) is responsible for providing specialized instruction and support to English learners (ELs) in a school setting. This role involves collaborating with teachers and administration to enhance the educational experience of ELs, ensuring they can effectively engage with the curriculum and meet grade-level standards. The ELPT will also facilitate family engagement and coordinate various programs to support the needs of multilingual learners.

Responsibilities

  • Provide instruction and support to English learners to enhance their ability to perform in English courses.
  • Collaborate with administration and teachers to support all teachers of English learners (ELs).
  • Participate in grade level meetings and the MTSS team to plan curriculum and instructional supports for ELs.
  • Coach teachers on effective instructional practices and assessment best practices for ELs.
  • Engage in data analysis to inform instruction for English learners.
  • Administer assessments in the native language when appropriate and available.
  • Facilitate instruction that honors students' identities and linguistic needs, including native language instruction.
  • Provide EL placement recommendations to the principal and support family engagement efforts.
  • Coordinate the administration of mandated state-prescribed screeners and maintain documentation of ELs.
  • Collaborate with special education staff to ensure appropriate services for ELs with IEPs.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of all student teaching requirements and coursework for the appropriate teaching license issued by the Illinois State Board of Education.
  • Possession of an Illinois State Board of Education issued educator license with a bilingual endorsement in the grade level being taught.
  • Knowledge of subject matter consistent with state certification requirements.
  • Knowledge of contemporary principles and practices of teaching and classroom management techniques.
  • Ability to modify instruction to meet student needs and cooperate with faculty and administration.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in bilingual education or working with multilingual learners.
  • Familiarity with WIDA ELD standards and CCSS alignment.
  • Skills in data analysis and instructional planning for diverse learners.
