About the position
Under direction of the Piedmont Governor's School Director, plan and provide for appropriate learning experiences for students. Provide an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social and emotional development of individuals to ensure success for every student. Supervise students in a variety of school related settings. Monitor and evaluate student learning outcomes. Communicate and interact with students, parents, staff and community. Develop, select and modify instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of gifted students. Maintain appropriate records and follow required procedures and practices. Monitor appropriate use and care of equipment, materials and facilities.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate the Senior Research Project
- Instruct students by direct instruction, demonstrating, conducting labs, and using audiovisual aids and other materials to supplement presentations.
- Prepare course objectives and outline for course of study following curriculum guidelines or requirements of school and community college.
- Assign lessons and correct homework.
- Administer tests to evaluate pupil progress, record results, and issue reports to inform parents.
- Keep attendance records.
- Maintain discipline in the classroom.
- Meet with parents to discuss student progress and problems.
- Participate in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and workshops.
- Comply with school and school board policies and regulations.
- Demonstrate professional growth.
- Be prompt and accurate with required records and reports.
- Use instructional and planning time effectively.
- Assume responsibility for care of materials, equipment, and facilities.
- Assume responsibility for a neat, safe environment for students committed to his/her care.
- Demonstrate knowledge of the subject being taught.
- Use out-of-class assignments, when appropriate, to support the instructional objectives.
- Facilitate project-based learning activities for students.
- Conduct field experiences with students.
Requirements
- Master's Degree in applicable field of education from an accredited college or university
- Minimum of 18 graduate hours in the subject area
- Must have or be eligible for a teacher license from the Virginia Department of Education
