About the position

Sinclair Community College is seeking a full-time tenure track faculty member for the English Department, effective January 2, 2025. This position involves teaching, curriculum development, and contributing to student success in a supportive and inclusive environment. The faculty member will engage in professional growth, assessment, and community service while adhering to the college's core values.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and seek to improve currency and competence in the discipline and as a teacher.
  • Participate in the continuing development and implementation of the department's curriculum through teaching that reflects a strong commitment to fostering student success.
  • Implement evaluations according to established standards and use assessment data to continuously improve teaching and learning.
  • Actively seek to advance the development of individual students and their capacity to meet their educational goals through in-class and out-of-class initiatives.
  • Contribute to the continuous review and revision of the department's curriculum in collaboration with colleagues, demonstrating advanced computer proficiency and effective time-management skills for online course development.
  • Contribute to the operation and advancement of the college through committee service and other activities, extending professional expertise to the community served by the college.
  • Teach a minimum of 30 semester hours annually during the academic year.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a master's degree in a discipline of English required.
  • Experience in teaching composition and business/professional writing required.
  • Experience in using creative approaches to writing instruction, including using technology in the classroom required.
  • Experience teaching in a community college writing program, including web-based course delivery required.
  • Demonstrated capacity to interact harmoniously with a diverse student body and faculty colleagues required.
  • Knowledge of key trends in college-writing instruction required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Industry experience in a writing-related field preferred.
  • Experience in professional/business writing program and curriculum development preferred.
