About the position

The Enteral Technician at Memorial Hermann Health System is responsible for processing, verifying, and delivering specialized pediatric tube feeding, infant formula, and breast milk medical orders. This role emphasizes high-quality care, safety, and effective communication with hospital staff to ensure that all nutritional needs of patients are met efficiently and compassionately.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and delivers new and revised breast milk and specialized pediatric/infant formula medical orders safely and efficiently.
  • Uses the electronic health record to accurately modify formula or milk recipes.
  • Follows aseptic techniques as established by department guidelines.
  • Communicates with interdepartmental and hospital professional staff to verify medical orders and delivery requirements.
  • Provides information, excellent customer service, and problem-solving as needed.
  • Conducts regular inventories of supplies and prepared items.
  • Distributes prepared, labeled human milk and formulas to patient care areas according to hospital policies.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and appropriate care in handling kitchen tools and equipment to prevent damage.
  • Uses cleaning chemicals and disinfectants according to MSDS while performing job duties.
  • Inspects, maintains, and ensures quality of products and kitchen equipment as per infection control policies.
  • Ensures safe care to patients, staff, and visitors while adhering to all policies and standards.
  • Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting education and competency requirements.
  • Models service standards by providing safe, caring, personalized, and efficient experiences.

Requirements

  • One year of experience in the preparation and handling of foods in a hotel, restaurant, institutional, or retail cafeteria setting preferred.
  • Ability to follow and relay oral and detailed written instructions.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of weights and measures and perform mathematical calculations used in recipes and inventory.
  • Good communication skills with a customer service focus.
  • Basic computer skills and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to perform duties that require walking, standing, bending, and lifting up to 50 pounds.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a healthcare setting is a plus.
  • Knowledge of aseptic techniques and infection control standards.
