The Database Enterprise Architect is a pivotal role within the Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District, tasked with ensuring the availability, performance, security, and lifecycle management of the District's databases, which include Oracle and MS SQL Server, both on-premise and cloud-based. This position is not only about maintaining the current database systems but also involves providing strategic technology guidance and developing comprehensive three to five-year technology roadmaps that align with the District's Strategic Business Operating Plan initiatives. The role offers a hybrid work schedule, allowing for flexibility in work arrangements. In this capacity, the Database Enterprise Architect will manage and direct the Database team, focusing on optimizing day-to-day processes necessary for effective database infrastructure management. This includes establishing and implementing database standards and operational procedures that ensure data confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The architect will devise strategies for capacity management, demand forecasting, application performance analysis, system tuning, and database infrastructure monitoring, as well as backup and restore capabilities. Additionally, the architect will lead the Database team in lifecycle management of the database infrastructure and technology, developing and implementing strategies that support the District's disaster recovery plan's Recovery Point Objective (RPO) and Recovery Time Objective (RTO). Collaboration is key in this role, as the architect will work closely with existing application engineering support and development teams to discuss solutions and implement complex design solutions. The architect will also assist in designing multi-phased cloud data strategies and develop scalable data ingestion frameworks to establish a Master Data Management infrastructure for customer and asset datasets. The role requires a strong foundation in both technical and managerial skills, as the architect will collaborate with Infrastructure and Application architects to develop technology roadmaps and provide consultation and support for enterprise projects, working closely with Business System Program managers.
