About the position

The Enterprise Data Architect at Jazz Pharmaceuticals is responsible for designing, creating, and managing the enterprise data architecture and standards. This role is crucial for establishing a solid foundation for enterprise data, ensuring secure and consistent organization to enable interconnectivity across functional data assets. The architect will set standards for data modeling, integration, engineering best practices, and data security design, while collaborating with various teams to drive data-driven thinking and unlock the value of enterprise data.

Responsibilities

  • Define high-level data architecture strategy and guidelines for data architecture including acquisition, staging, storage, archival/retention, redundancy, and master data.
  • Simplify existing data architecture across the enterprise, delivering reusable services and cost-saving opportunities.
  • Design or oversee the design of the structure and security for data systems including database layers, data fabric, data warehouses, and lakes.
  • Establish data access controls and security measures.
  • Translate high-level business requirements into data models and appropriate metadata, test data, and data quality standards.
  • Lead design review and quality assurance of project data architecture artifacts.
  • Define and manage standards, guidelines, and processes to ensure high levels of data quality and security.
  • Lead the team in ensuring best practice data architecture across the enterprise.
  • Evaluate and recommend emerging technologies for data management, storage, and analytics.
  • Lead initiatives related to progressing Jazz's data architecture in support of data science and AI initiatives.
  • Design master data elements focusing on interoperability across data assets.
  • Ensure development and maintenance activities align with enterprise architecture.
  • Collaborate with the Enterprise Data Management team to maintain repositories for data elements, relationships, and attributes.
  • Encourage a data citizenship mindset among stakeholders.
  • Summarize and communicate enterprise data and architecture concepts to stakeholders.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of relevant experience in design and implementation of data models for enterprise data warehouse, data lake, and data science initiatives.
  • Experience leading projects involving data warehousing, data modeling, and data security.
  • Design experience in AWS Redshift, Informatica PowerCenter, and Power BI/Tableau.
  • Experience leading a team of architects and engineers, both employees and consultants.
  • Experience working in highly collaborative cross-functional teams and delivering solutions through both waterfall and agile project delivery.
  • Prior experience in a highly regulated industry, preferably pharmaceuticals or biotech.
  • Proficient in programming languages such as Python, R, or SQL.
  • Proficiency in modern data architectures and concepts such as cloud services (AWS) and modern data warehouse tools (Snowflake, Databricks).
  • Experience with data engineering tools such as Informatica PowerCenter/IICS and data modeling tools.
  • Understanding of entity-relationship modeling, metadata systems, and data quality tools and techniques.
  • Ability to think strategically and relate architectural decisions to business needs.
  • Experience with business intelligence tools such as Power BI and Tableau.
