About the position

The Enterprise Data Architect at Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island (BCBSRI) plays a crucial role in designing, developing, and implementing data architecture to support corporate projects and analytics. This position involves collaboration with various technical teams and stakeholders to optimize data processes and ensure that customer needs are met. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in data warehousing, ETL processes, and database management, with a strong desire to innovate in a dynamic healthcare environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform data modeling activities to support corporate project and analytic needs.
• Design data warehouse aggregations and marts to optimize user experience with business intelligence tools.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders, external vendors, and IT subcontractors.
• Participate in formal and informal review boards.
• Direct on and offshore technology providers in data engineering and database management activities.
• Ensure modern approaches and technologies are used to increase quality and efficiency.
• Formulate data architecture strategy/design that meets customer needs.
• Build out technical data solutions, prepare reports, and deliver presentations.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to understand current state and ensure alignment with future technological strategy.
• Optimize existing infrastructure and eliminate redundant applications and tools.
• Monitor costs associated with database and ETL tools as part of the data infrastructure.
• Support internal enterprise data governance program.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Science, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Ten or more years of progressively increasing responsibility within information technology.
• Seven or more years of experience creating logical and physical data models using relational and/or dimensional modeling.
• Five or more years driving technical architecture decisions at an enterprise level.
• Experience with best practice ETL development and project management methodologies.
• Advanced knowledge of industry-leading BI tools and multiple RDBMS platforms.
• Experience with layered data architecture approach.
• Ability to mentor resources in leadership and technical areas.
• Strong business acumen and political savvy.
• Ability to lead and manage projects and collaborate in complex situations.
• Ability to think creatively and drive innovation.

Nice-to-haves

• Master's degree in a technical discipline such as Information Systems Management or Computer Science.
• Experience in the healthcare or health insurance industry.
• Experience with Netezza Appliance and Snowflake cloud data warehouse platform.
• Experience with IBM Infosphere and Data Stage product.
• Experience with Matillion ELT Tool and Trizetto's Facets claims adjudication engine.
• Experience with modern data integrations using web services (APIs) and streaming.
• Experience with NoSQL databases and data lakes.
