About the position

The Enterprise Data Architect at Ent Credit Union plays a crucial role in designing, creating, deploying, and managing the organization's data architecture. This position is essential for enabling Ent to meet or exceed its various business strategies. The architect will work primarily within agile teams, collaborating with project managers, product owners, data engineers, business intelligence analysts, data scientists, and developers to ensure that the data architecture aligns with business objectives and facilitates rapid, actionable insights. Key responsibilities include initiating and recommending the collection of new data sources or modifications to existing ones to address business challenges. The architect will design database and data lake schemas, ensuring efficient data storage that aligns with business goals. They will also consult with data engineers on pipeline development, ensuring that data mappings align with expected schemas, and work closely with data/BI analysts and data scientists to ensure that data schemas and processing meet the needs of downstream analytical processes. In addition to technical responsibilities, the Enterprise Data Architect will develop partnerships with data consumers to understand their needs and facilitate schema development that aligns with business definitions. They will document architectural patterns and practices for use throughout the Data & Analytics teams and perform periodic checks to ensure adherence to best practices. The architect will also work closely with the Data Governance committee to define data standards and policies, ensuring data integrity and security throughout all stages of data processing. As a technical lead, the architect will provide consulting expertise and mentoring across multiple verticals, enhancing team effectiveness. They will also remain cognizant of and adhere to Ent's policies and procedures, particularly those related to the Bank Secrecy Act.

Responsibilities

  • Initiate and recommend the collection of new data sources or modification of existing data sources to solve business problems.
  • Architect database and/or data lake schemas to ensure efficient data storage that aligns with business objectives.
  • Consult with Data Engineers on pipeline development ensuring data mappings align with expected schemas.
  • Consult with Data/BI analysts and Data Scientists to ensure data schemas and pipeline processing meet downstream analytical needs.
  • Design and optimize high performing data models for different consumption patterns from data stores.
  • Act as subject matter expert for all data flowing into Ent's data warehouse/lakehouse.
  • Develop partnerships with consumers of Ent's data assets to understand business needs.
  • Facilitate schema development that aligns with business definitions.
  • Document how schemas map to business data sources.
  • Document various architectural patterns and practices for use throughout the Data & Analytics teams.
  • Perform periodic checks to ensure Data Engineers are following best practices, including participating in code reviews.
  • Work closely with the Data Governance committee to define data standards and policies.
  • Ensure design/development adheres to Data Governance standards/policies and maintain data integrity.
  • Document current data processes, including data flow diagrams and data dictionaries.
  • Provide consulting expertise and technical mentoring across multiple verticals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree with an emphasis on coursework of a quantitative nature (e.g., Business Analytics, Statistics, Information Systems).
  • 8+ years' experience with Management Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Analytics, or similar relevant field.
  • 4+ years' Data modeling/design/architecture experience.
  • 2+ years working with an enterprise-wide Data Governance initiative (preferred).
  • 2+ years Financial Institution experience (preferred).
  • Expert-level data requirement gathering skills.
  • Expert-level data modeling skills including relational data modeling, data warehouse star schema modeling, and data lake design.
  • Deep understanding of enterprise Data Governance initiatives and data security at multiple layers.
  • Thorough understanding of data quality standards/best practices and data retention processes.
  • Development and maintenance of various data pipeline processes.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of Databricks, including DeltaLake concepts (preferred).
  • Knowledge of programming languages such as C#, Python, Scala, Spark SQL (preferred).
  • Experience acting as a consultant to other professionals in IT.
