About the position

The Enterprise Data Engineering Manager at Western Alliance Bank is responsible for leading a team of data engineers to implement an enterprise data platform that aligns with the bank's strategic data and analytics needs. This role involves integrating data management and technology to develop a cross-business unit data tier, enhancing product offerings and delivering insights. The manager will oversee data lifecycle management, data governance, and quality monitoring, while also collaborating with various stakeholders to support enterprise data solutions.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of data engineers in implementing an enterprise data platform.
• Integrate data management and technology knowledge to develop a cross-business unit data tier.
• Build solutions for complete data lifecycle management, including data governance and quality monitoring.
• Serve as a player-coach, providing management and hands-on contributions to the team's solutions.
• Collaborate with architects, product managers, and stakeholders to deliver enterprise data solutions.
• Implement data engineering best practices across the full data lifecycle.
• Ensure adherence to published architecture patterns and specifications.
• Provide resolution to production incidents related to the data platform.
• Conduct frequent coaching with individual engineers to guide their professional development.
• Communicate progress, issues, and successes across business and technology stakeholders.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field.
• 8+ years' experience with data engineering, specifically in ETL concepts and processes.
• 5+ years' experience designing and supporting cloud data solutions, preferably in Azure.
• 3+ years' experience leading teams or complex data projects.
• 2 years' experience working with structured and unstructured data using Big Data Technologies.
• Expert level experience with at least one RDBMS and query language such as T-SQL, PL/SQL, or Spark SQL.
• Intermediate level experience in conceptual, logical, and physical data design.
• Certifications within Azure such as Azure Fundamentals, Azure Data Engineer, or Azure DevOps Engineer.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in Agile, SAFe, and/or Scrum methodologies.
• Experience integrating with data quality, data catalog, and data lineage tools.
• Additional Cloud Data certifications with any major cloud providers (Azure, AWS, GCP).
• Familiarity with analytics solutions and data science capabilities.
• Banking or financial services industry experience.
