About the position

The Enterprise Data Production Support Engineer will serve as the primary point of contact for production support of data pipelines on the Google Cloud Platform. This role focuses on ensuring minimal downtime, rapid issue resolution, and effective communication with stakeholders. The engineer will also be responsible for monitoring, maintaining, and improving data pipelines, while ensuring compliance with security policies and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Production Support: Serve as the primary point of contact for production support of data pipelines on the Google Cloud Platform, ensuring minimal downtime and rapid issue resolution.
  • Pipeline Monitoring & Maintenance: Continuously monitor the health of data pipelines, troubleshoot issues, and perform necessary maintenance to optimize performance.
  • Incident Management: Manage and resolve incidents in a timely manner, ensuring that root causes are identified and documented. Implement corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
  • Collaboration with Offshore Teams: Coordinate and collaborate effectively with offshore teams, ensuring seamless communication and handover of tasks. Provide guidance and support to offshore engineers.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Regularly communicate with stakeholders to provide updates on system health, incident status, and ongoing projects. Translate technical issues into business terms for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Automation and Improvement: Identify opportunities to automate recurring tasks and improve the efficiency and reliability of data pipelines. Contribute to the enhancement of monitoring and alerting systems.
  • Documentation: Maintain comprehensive documentation of processes, incident reports, and changes to the data pipeline architecture.
  • Compliance and Security: Ensure that all data pipelines are compliant with relevant regulations and internal security policies. Proactively address any potential security risks.
  • On-Call Support: Participate in on-call rotations to provide 24/7 support, ensuring that critical issues are addressed promptly.

Requirements

  • Strong proficiency in Python with hands-on experience in developing and supporting data pipelines.
  • Extensive experience in working with relational databases and structured query language (SQL).
  • Extensive experience working with Google Cloud Platform, including services like BigQuery, Cloud Storage, Dataflow, Pub/Sub, etc.
  • Familiarity with existing frameworks on the cloud framework.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and tools such as Git and Terraform.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues in a production environment, with a strong focus on root cause analysis and resolution.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in managing or leading a support team, especially in an onsite/offshore model.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with technical teams, management, and business stakeholders.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

Nice-to-haves

  • Google Cloud Platform Certification (e.g., Associate Cloud Engineer, Professional Data Engineer) is a plus.
  • Knowledge of data warehousing concepts and tools.
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools.
  • Previous experience in an insurance domain.
  • Previous experience with Guidewire Policy systems.
