About the position

The Enterprise Data Warehouse Architect at North Carolina State University is responsible for leading the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of the University's centralized data warehouse. This role involves collaborating with various stakeholders to ensure the data warehouse supports data-driven decision-making across the institution. The architect will manage the software development lifecycle related to the data warehouse and ensure compliance with data management processes while promoting positive customer relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and manage a data warehouse architecture for analytics development.
  • Collaborate with business SMEs, data analysts, and BI content developers to translate business requirements into technical specifications.
  • Lead the development of data models, data marts, ETL processes, and integrations for the data warehouse.
  • Create and maintain documentation of the warehouse architecture, including models and ERDs.
  • Optimize data models and warehouse architecture for performance and scalability.
  • Lead and manage the software development lifecycle related to the data warehouse.
  • Guide and review the work of data engineers to ensure quality and alignment with design principles.
  • Develop and maintain a coherent data strategy related to the warehouse in collaboration with leadership.
  • Lead cross-domain teams for integrated data sources and ETL processes.
  • Design and maintain a security model for the warehouse to ensure appropriate data access.

Requirements

  • Master's degree and at least 3 - 5 years of relevant experience OR Bachelor's degree with at least 4 - 6 years of relevant experience.
  • Proven experience leading data warehouse implementations in a Data Warehouse Architect role.
  • Expertise in data warehouse design concepts, data modeling, and ETL processes.
  • Expertise in managing a Software Development Lifecycle in a complex environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and evaluative skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Significant experience designing and building data warehouses in a higher education environment.
  • Extensive experience with Oracle database design and development.
  • Experience with Oracle ETL and data management tools.
  • Knowledge of analytics platforms and data visualization toolsets.
  • Strong programming skills in languages such as Python and Java.
  • Certification(s) in Data Architecture, Big Data, Data Engineering.
