About the position

The Enterprise Risk Officer at First Hawaiian Bank plays a crucial role in leading the development, implementation, and monitoring of the Bank's risk management framework. This position is responsible for identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks across various business functions while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. The officer will contribute to policy design and provide insights for informed decision-making at the enterprise level, all under the guidance of the Enterprise Risk Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Leads consolidation of identified risks and facilitates governance.
  • Coordinates, prepares, collects, reviews, and produces material for Enterprise and Board Risk Committees, including Risk Appetite Reporting Metrics and Forward-Looking Risk Metrics.
  • Maintains the Bank's material risk inventory and assesses emerging risks for inclusion.
  • Produces monthly Market Risk report to Asset-Liability Committee.
  • Independently reviews material policy breaches to ensure compliance with ERM guidelines.
  • Prepares ad-hoc risk reports and presentations for senior management and risk committees.
  • Develops and implements Enterprise Risk Management, Risk Taxonomy, and Risk Appetite Framework policies.
  • Creates Market Risk Policy and other ERM owned policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Leads educational initiatives to promote Enterprise-wide adoption of sound risk management practices.
  • Supports Independent Risk Management teams in harmonizing risk management approaches.
  • Advises risk owners on applying ERM guidelines and assesses existing risk management efforts.
  • Increases Risk Management literacy across the Bank through educational materials and trainings.
  • Leads preparation for and response to internal audits and regulatory examinations.
  • Drives continuous enhancement efforts to improve the ERM framework and incorporate best industry practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, business administration, risk management or a related field required.
  • Master's degree in finance, business administration, risk management or a related field preferred.
  • Certification (FRM, PRM, CRMA or equivalent) preferred.
  • Four (4)+ years of professional experience in risk management, banking, quantitative analysis, or other related experience required.
  • Familiarity with risk frameworks such as COSO, ISO31000 or similar required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to effectively present complex technical analyses to non-technical audiences.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, critical thinking, investigative problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365 suite of applications.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in enterprise risk management, financial risk management, banking, finance or corporate treasury preferred.
  • Demonstrated self-starter mindset, comfortable in ideating initiatives and leading them to completion.
  • Ability to build good working relationships across business units.
  • Able to work independently and execute responsibilities with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrate solid organization skills with an ability to prioritize effectively and meet deadlines.
