About the position

The Enterprise Technology Policy Manager at Washington Technology Solutions (WaTech) plays a crucial role in overseeing the state's enterprise technology policy portfolio. This position involves providing subject matter expertise to decision-makers, including the state CIO and executive leadership, regarding the development, review, and approval of statewide IT policies. The manager will also coordinate with external partners and ensure compliance with industry best practices while monitoring the lifecycle of policies.

Responsibilities

  • Form and direct the agency's strategy for IT policy development.
  • Collaborate with policy owners to develop, update, and monitor compliance with enterprise technology policies.
  • Design and implement custodial processes related to the state's technology portfolio of policies, standards, and guidelines.
  • Create and provide a framework for policy owners to develop their policies.
  • Design and implement process improvement initiatives for technology policies, standards, and guidelines.
  • Prepare policy overview materials for review and approval by the Technology Services Board (TSB).
  • Monitor policies across their lifecycle to ensure they are timely and aligned with industry best practices.
  • Provide subject matter expertise about WaTech policies to inform decision-making by governance groups.
  • Coordinate and facilitate sessions for new policy development and updates.
  • Review and monitor emerging technology trends and regulations for impacts on technology.

Requirements

  • Eight years of experience developing, analyzing, and/or maintaining policies or interpreting policies, laws, rules, and regulations for compliance purposes.
  • At least two years of demonstrated knowledge and experience in developing policy/procedure documents to further an organization's mission.
  • Formal education or certifications, such as an associate or bachelor's degree, may substitute year for year for experience up to four years.

Nice-to-haves

  • Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) or other professional technology certifications.
  • Working knowledge of the state of Washington's governing statutes related to enterprise technology policies (RCW 43.105).
  • Experience in establishing reporting metrics.
  • Previous experience in establishing approval or governance processes.
  • Multiple, interdisciplinary experiences in the technology sector.
  • Familiarity with the state's legislative process.
